I bought this model after reading many, many reviews (of every model/brand you can imagine). After determining that other brands wouldn't suit my needs (price, quality, customer service, my type of flooring, etc) I settled on the Roomba. I initially was thinking of buying the newest model, but having difficulty swallowing the idea of spending upwards of $800 I started looking into other older models. Pretty much every review on various Roomba models were the same with the exception of one that I read. The "author" said that the newer models have special filters that you have to continually buy/replace unlike the 560 he previously owned (just take out the side slot and dump it, then put back...no special bags, etc). He mentioned that this was a hidden cost with the newer models and felt that the newer one he bought didn't necessarily clean that much better than his old one, at least not for the significant price difference. One thing that settled the "which model to get" debate with me was that he also said "he wished he kept his old 560 model and didn't buy the new one". I was sold. I bought this used and seems to work like a champ. I've only used it twice so far, and always manually vs. a schedule. I travel quite a bit for work and the vacuum seems to freak my two cats out so I haven't wanted to have it run while I was away for fear they'd attack it somehow. I have tile floors and lower pile carpet in the bedrooms. The one rug I have on the tile floors has some dark areas. I haven't been able to really test the "it gets lost on dark colors" because it has only managed to get onto the rug once, the rest of the time it didn't seem to be able to get over the edge of the rug (carpet swag style rug, not persian). I don't really have a wide open wall space that I can place this thing, so I placed it against a wall by my dining room table. The second time it got a little confused where the docking station was with all the chairs and legs of the table. I presume if it had a wide open space it would've docked just fine. If I had this on a schedule, where it worked while I was gone, I would be worried I'd be coming home to a dead battery from it not being able to dock itself. Overall, I'm very pleased with my Roomba 560 purchase. I've never tested a newer model for comparison, but this one seems to be a great value and gets the job done.

The iRobot Roomba is an effective piece of technology that we respect for what it can do and how it does it. The Roomba does a great job at cleaning our bamboo hardwood floors. With this being said, we now have learned to move certain pieces of our furniture from its path in order to avoid damage/scratches to these items. We've been using the Roomba for over 6 months now and like how it does a fine job with the Flor carpet squares covered portions of our wood surfaces and the carpeted rooms we unleash it in.
